why halogen incandescent light bulbs are banned

Halogen and Incandescent Light Bulb Ban

As of August 1, 2023, incandescent light bulbs are no longer being manufactured or sold in the United States, along with Halogen bulbs. The transition is towards more energy-efficient LED light bulbs, which are expected to save households around $100 per year on energy bills. The ban may also extend to Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs by 2025. Recommendations for alternative light bulbs include energy-efficient LED bulbs, smart bulbs with advanced features, and Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs as temporary options.

The Biden administration finalized the ban on incandescent light bulbs, requiring a minimum energy efficiency standard of 45 lumens per watt. This rule effectively prohibits halogen and incandescent bulbs, promoting the use of more energy-efficient options like LED bulbs. The enforcement of this rule aims to save consumers money on utility bills and reduce carbon emissions significantly. The administration is also considering raising the energy efficiency standard further to over 120 lumens per watt, which would further encourage the transition to LED bulbs.
